Description

Played a bit with the "Soldiers of Magic Serpio" by my very good PA friend V3Digitimes. She stated that those don't work in Iray. I think with a bit of work and some adjustment they also can look very nice in Iray. The scene is lit by the effect only, no additional lights, the bloom effect is within the Iray render settings, I also added the volume cube used in the tutorial by SickleYield

[Tutorial] Creating Dust And Atmosphere in IrayA video version is here.
I learned this method from jag11 on the DAZ3D forums, who is thanked for permission to use it in this tutorial!
In 3Delight there's no way to create atmosphere or godrays (the rays that are visible when light passes through dust or particles).  There are products to facilitate (one of them mine), but most are either not the easiest to use or ultimately just a faking of a feature the engine lacks.  Many artists use postwork instead.
DAZ Studio 4.8 Beta's new Iray engine also lacks a native mechanism for creating atmospheric volumes - but it can be easily convinced to produce them!  They will come from your lights and react to objects in your scene.  I did a test image of Jack Tomalin's Chapter House Iray scene (free to Plat Club members
 with slightly different settings.
Only postwork was a bit of sharpening and a little bit of extra bloom in Photoshop. G2M with my Ian-Pierre texture, clothes are Asgard Cleric with textures from Sarsa.
Thanks for viewing. :)

Hey Jepe,

Not to necro an old thread, but could you possibly explain to me your exact shader settings for this effect? Not the fog volume. I'm more trying to get the multi-color effect you did on the serpio. I'm not too familiar with Iray as I mostly used Mental Ray shaders, so I am a tad unfamiliar with Daz Studio shaders, but when I use emission shaders on this, I get a partially transparent serpio, with no glow and it's a bit frustrating.
